About SYC

Stepanavan Youth Center (SYC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization in Stepanavan, Armenia. SYC was established in October 2001 by active young people of Stepanavan with the aim to assist in the development of their home town and country. The organization registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia in June 2002.

The Mission of the SYC is to promote active youth citizenship and youth participation in addressing social, cultural and environmental issues in local communities organizing training, consultations, special projects, campaign, spreading information and providing possibilities for exchange of information and competences with their peers.

SYC started the GLOW Girls Leadership and Empowerment project in 2008 together with the U.S. Peace Corps volunteers. It is an annual program targetting teenage girls from regions of Armenia. The name was taken from GLOW camps, a Peace Corps volunteers initiative started in Romania in 1995. SYC remodelled the program and developed a strong leadership and personal development project starting with a residential summer school and continuing with a year long follow up activities. Over 500 girls from 40 communities in regions of Armenia benefit from GLOW project annually.
